KBCA Jazz Radio, February, 1976– more than three hours of broadcast

Sometime about 10 years ago, I met a guy at a garage sale in the Battle Creek neighborhood of St Paul. Bill was a jazz drummer in his sixties, and told me about some Sunday all-day jam sessions that some cats would hold in South Minneapolis back in the 1970s. He had some old Staples Singers records, and a box of reel to reel tapes. Hoping he had tapes of the jam sessions, I volunteered to transfer them to digital, so we could examine the tapes further. What popped up instead was this set or recordings. Bill said that when he was in L.A. for a few days, he had recorded some radio in his motel room with his portable deck. Commercials, gig announcements, and news reports are intact. It’s a great snapshot of how Jazz was presented on commercial radio back then. Thanx, Bill, wherever you are.
