Dragnet at The Minneapolis Aquatennial Aqua Jam 87, Lake Calhoun. Thanks, Mike Qualley

Dragnet ruled. A good hint to that is their choice of covers on this tape: The Suicide Commandos and The Who. Produced by the estimable Terry Katzman. None of the five original songs here made it onto their two 7″ singles or their Life in General LP. Thanks to Greg Schaefer for turning on the green light to post these tracks for you, and to John at City of Dust for pointing me to this tape.

Falling Down

All the Peacocks

Attacking the Beat

A Legal Matter

Solitude

Trees

No Second Chance

Oddly, the version of “A Legal Matter” on the Oh! You Mean MPLS compilation cassette is credited as being produced and engineered by Brian Paulson. I haven’t checked to see if they’re different versions. What a great band.

Wonderful stuff. Solid writing, playing with conviction – we’re gonna play our music no matter what underpinning. Legal Matter – good cover of a less well know Who tune. Trees has a bit o’ Joy Division. I also hear echoes of Husker Du, but these guys sound like their own entity. Lots of today’s Indie wanna-be-punks who wanna seem devil-may-care should take a cue.

Wow! Thanks for posting this! I love the album and the “Five Days” single (still haven’t tracked down a copy of the first 7″) but had no idea this even existed!

I actually posted a-side the “Five Days” single on my own blog awhile back: http://lightningjukebox.blogspot.com/2010/09/dragnet-days.html

Great band and super nice guys as well. I’ve never heard this. Got to play some shows with them back in the day.
